This paper presents the development of an optimal interval Newton method for systems of nonlinear equations. The context of solving such systems of equations is that of optimization of nonlinear mathematical programs. The modifications of the interval Newton method presented in this paper provide computationally effective enhancements to the general interval Newton method. The paper demonstrates the need to compute an optimal step length in the interval Newton method in order to guarantee the generation of a sequence of improving solutions. This method is referred to as the optimal Newton method and is implemented in multiple dimensions. Secondly, the paper demonstrates the use of the optimal interval Newton method as a feasible direction method to deal with non-negativity constraints. Also, included in this implementation is the use of a matrix decomposition technique to reduce the computational effort required to compute the Hessian inverse in the interval Newton method. The methods are demonstrated on several problems. Included in these problems are mathematical programs with perturbations in the problem coefficients. The numerical results clearly demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of these approaches.  相似文献

Synchronized external pulsation is proposed as a method to improve tolerance to acceleration stress. This technique uses a modified anti-G suit which is pressurized and depressurized synchronously with the heart cycle. The feasibility of the procedure has been studied using a computer model of the cardiovascular system which includes the effects of Gz stress, and contains simulations of baroreceptor control of heart rate and venous tone. Model predictions indicate that for unprotected subjects, carotid pressure at eye level (ophthalmic artery pressure) decreases to 20 mmHg (beginning of central light loss) at approximately +3.6 Gz. Applying standard anti-G suit pressure to the model increases this level to 5.3 Gz. When synchronized external pulsation of 2 psi is superimposed on the standard anti-G suit pressure, the tolerance to acceleration stress is further augmented by at least 0.9 G above the protection afforded by the standard anti-G suit alone. A set of preliminary experiments on human subjects to test the feasibility of using the technique in the high-G environment has also been carried out. The results under various protection modes compare favorably to the model predictions. Our results suggest that the computer model presented here is a useful tool for studying cardiovascular responses under +GZ stress. It also indicates that using synchronized external pulsation pressure superimposed on the standard anti-G suit pressure may offer extra protection to acceleration stress.  相似文献

We studied the problem of QoS guarantee for differentiated services. A two-level hierarchical scheduling framework was deployed to separate QoS metrics. Due to its desirable property of minimizing the maximum packet lateness, the Earliest Deadline First (EDF) scheduling was adopted to provide the in-class scheduling for the time-sensitive traffic. We employed an EDF scheduler combined with an active buffer management scheme (CHOKe) to improve the fairness of resource allocation and to maintain a good delay performance for real-time applications. Simulation results showed that the proposed scheme can achieve a better delay performance and make a more fair bandwidth allocation between the real-time TCP and UDP connections than the First Come First Served (FCFS) scheduling with the drop-tail buffer management which is commonly deployed in traditional IP routers.  相似文献

Mainstream and sidestream smoke extracts of both high-tar and low-tar cigarettes have been shown to increase platelet activation directly and to sensitize them to further activation by exposure to mechanical stimuli such as shear stress. However, nicotine has an inhibitory effect on platelet activation, opposite to that of whole cigarette smoke extracts. To distinguish between the nicotine-dependent and non-nicotine-dependent effects of smoke, platelets were exposed to mainstream and sidestream smoke extracts of low-nicotine and zero-nicotine cigarettes in vitro under flow conditions comparable with the normal circulation, and their activation state was measured using a modified prothrombinase-based assay. Both low-nicotine and zero-nicotine extracts caused increased platelet activation upon exposure to shear stress, and they caused significantly greater activation than extracts from ordinary high-tar, high-nicotine cigarettes. That nicotine was crucial was confirmed by adding 50 nM nicotine (comparable with the nicotine level in smokers' plasma) to zero-nicotine smoke extracts and demonstrating a reduction in the shear-dependent rate of platelet activation of more than 75%.  相似文献

The laws specifying separate group areas and planned residential segregation have been abolished and non-racial social and living environments are espoused as state planning objectives. Yet an examination of current residential planning in the area between the Witwatersrand and the Vaal Triangle points to the fact that recently developed African areas like Orange Farm, Wildebeesfontein, Evaton West and Rietfontein appear to conform with the racial land zoning policies developed in the period when Dr Verwoerd was Minister of Native Affairs (Mabin and Royston 1991: 27). The more things appear to change, the more they seem to remain the same: a recent prospectus on reconstructing South African cities concludes that a recurring theme in the emergence of new planning regimes in the history of modern South Africa has been the persistence of older social and physical forms (Mabin and Smith 1992: 30). In the context of enormous and traumatic social and political change new, progressive urban planning ideas, which have as their starting point integration of the cities and empowerment of the citizenry, have taken root. Will the current idealism and popular democratic vision of reconstruction be eclipsed, as Mabin and Smit (1992: 30) put it, by ‘the accession to power of new regimes which have perverted the idealism and vision of reconstruction to less attractive ends’?  相似文献

We describe several new algorithms for Byzantine agreement. The first of these is a simplification of the original exponential-time Byzantine agreement algorithm due to Pease, Shostak, and Lamport, and is of comparable complexity to their algorithm. However, its proof is very intuitively appealing. A technique of shifting between algorithms for solving the Byzantine agreement problem is then studied. We present two families of algorithms obtained by applying a shift operator to our first algorithm. These families obtain the same rounds to message length trade-off as do Coan's families but do not require the exponential local computation time (and space) of his algorithms. We also describe a modification of an -resilient algorithm for Byzantine agreement of Dolev, Reischuk, and Strong. Finally, we obtain a hybrid algorithm that dominates all our others, by beginning execution of an algorithm in one family, first shifting into an algorithm of the second family, and finally shifting into an execution of the adaptation of the Dolev, Reischuk, and Strong algorithm.  相似文献

A competitive neural network model and a genetic algorithm are used to improve the initialization and construction phase of a parallel insertion heuristic for the vehicle routing problem with time windows. The neural network identifies seed customers that are distributed over the entire geographic area during the initialization phase, while the genetic algorithm finds good parameter settings in the route construction phase that follows. This paper focuses on the development of a magnetic moment method of calculating vector field quantities for a highly permeable ferrite cored eddy current probe. Basis functions are used in this method to replace the scattered field caused by the probe core in accordance with the surface equivalence theorem. These functions are further developed and tested for accuracy and convergence. An efficient material profile equation, independent of probe coil and basis function properties, is also designed and verified. Collocation point selection and optimisation is finally undertaken leading to the accurate determination of probe source coil impedance. The accuracy of calculation is verified using an industry standard finite element solver.  相似文献

Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) is used to characterize the diffusion properties of deviated white matter caused by brain tumors. DTI was recently shown to be very helpful in delineating white matter both within brain lesions and surrounding them. Displacement of white matter fibers may be one of the consequences of tumor growth adjacent to white matter. The combination of white matter mapping with DTI and gray matter mapping using functional MRI, in some cases, facilitated assessment of the relation between the shifted cortical areas and the corresponding white matter tracts. We found that the fractional anisotropy extracted from DTI is increased by 38% in areas of non-edematous shifted white matter fibers. By contrast, trace apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values in those areas were found to be similar to contralateral side and normal control values. Analysis of the three diffusion tensor eigenvalues revealed that the increase in the fractional anisotropy is a result of two processes. The first is the increase in the diffusion parallel to the fibers—λ1 (by 18%), and the second is the decrease in the diffusion perpendicular to fibers—λ3 (by 34%) as compared with the contralateral side. These opposing changes cause an increase in the diffusion anisotropy but no change in the trace ADC. It is suggested that the pressure caused by the tumor may lead to an increase in white matter fiber tension, thus causing an increase in λ1. On the other hand, the same pressure causes increased fiber density per unit area, leading to a higher degree of restricted diffusion in the extracellular space and, hence, a reduction in λ3.  相似文献

The Impact of Event Scale (ES; M. J. Horowitz, N. Wilner, & W. Alvarez, 1979) is a worldwide-used self-report measure to assess the frequency of intrusive and avoidant phenomena after a variety of traumatic experiences. The purpose of this article is to assess the psychometric value of the Dutch version of the IES (D. Brom & R. J. Kleber, 1985) in several samples of individuals who had experienced various traumatic stressors. The reliability and structure of the IES were evaluated in 3 different samples (total N = 1.588). The reliability of the Dutch version of the IES was adequate across the various stressors. The construct validity was assessed by using confirmatory factor analyses.
